AIKS-led Dairy Farmers Hold Dharna in Delhi on their Demands
On July 27, 2022, hundreds of dairy farmers led by the newly-formed Dairy Farmers Federation of India (DFFI), affiliated to the AIKS, held a dharna at Jantar Mantar in Delhi when the Parliament session is on. The dairy farmers came from Kerala, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Maharashtra.
The main demands were: Fair Remunerative Price for milk; Cancel the imposition of GST on dairy products, machinery and milking machines; Reduce the cost of production by supplying silage and fodder at subsidised rates; and so on.
The dharna was inaugurated by AIKS President Dr Ashok Dhawale, and it was addressed by DFFI Convenors P Krishna Prasad, V S Padma Kumar and Valsan Pahili (Kerala), Inderjit Singh, Phool Singh Sheokand, Sumit, Dinesh Siwach and Dimple (Haryana), Bharat Singh and Digambar Singh (UP), Sandeep Meel (Rajasthan), and A B Patil (Maharashtra).
Three MPs from Kerala - V Sivadasan, A A Rahim and A M Arif also came and expressed support to the demands. A memo will be submitted to Shri Purushottam Rupala, Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairy.
